I found my way to Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) by way of Greenberg’s Emotion Focused Therapy. I fell in love with EFCT as a well-researched, attachment-focused, experientially-based model. I feel the power Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) has to shape my relationships both professionally and personally.
The more I used EFCT in my work with couples, the more I was drawn to learning Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). I love the coherence of a unifying model that guides my understanding of the “within and between” of attachment with individuals and with couples.
As of early 2024, I became certified in EFIT and EFCT. I am now embarking on the road to become a certified supervisor. In my work, I am particularly drawn to how therapists use their selves as an instrument of relational change in EFT.
Moving forward, I hope to spread my love of EFT to Bombay, India. Also, I’d like to continue learning how to expand the frame of EFT to include the intersection of forces in and around us. My sources of joy include conversations with loved ones, walking in the gardens, making art, writing, traveling, and cooking Friday evening dinners.
